location. For now, students and staff are using divided classroom spaces and making use of nearly every part of the building.

"We were optimistically hopeful we would be able to start school here on September 8th. But because of the delays that can happen in construction, we found out mid to late August we’re going have to be there for a little bit longer," said Ted Clark.

Clark explained that Helena Christian had operated in rented spaces for more than 40 years. He said that experience helped the school shift into its temporary setup while work continues on the new campus.

"We are thankful for the various partners that allowed us to rent from them over the years. It’s been a blessing for the school community," said Ted Clark. "As we’ve heard things, worked on things and come up against some pitfalls or things that aren’t working out quite as quickly or they would. We were thoughtful and intentional about informing our families, our staff and students at the appropriate time," he said.

Teacher Amanda Ray said staff had expected construction changes could affect the timeline. She said teachers adjusted and focused on making the temporary space work for students.

"We knew it might be a possibility and I think anyone who’s been through a building process knows that there’s changes to the plan. So, we were all ready for that to happen. Of course it was new, it’s different. We’ve made some adjustments but overall we’re so thankful to be there," said Amanda Ray.

Student Ainsley Hansemann said students are staying flexible while they wait for the permanent move. She said excitement about the new building has not changed.

"We’re all being flexible with our current situation. But I think we’re all excited and happy that it’s happening and it doesn't matter that we’re in the temporary location because we’re looking forward to the new school building," said Ainsley Hansemann.

Teachers and students said they are eager for the day the whole school could move in. The new facility is expected to serve more than 250 students, teachers, faculty and staff.

"It’s so surreal. It’s fun to see it all come together, it’s fun to see progress each day. It kind of feels like a promiseland of sorts for our school," said Amanda Ray. "I’m looking forward to the bigger classrooms, the bigger hallways and being able to have a place for HCS to call its own is going to be special," said Ainsley Hansemann.
